Where to Apply for a Russian Visa in the USA: Washington, New York or Houston

The three posts are not interchangeable operationally. The visa category and federal rules may be the same, but the first step, accepted representative, payment and passport-return instructions can differ. Use the live page of the post that will receive the application.

Washington’s current page begins with preliminary document review by email before an in-person appointment.[1] New York and Houston publish their own appointment and representative rules.[2] [3]

The Embassy’s current general visa page says requests are accepted by appointment, documents are submitted in person and appointments can be made after preliminary review of a complete document set sent by email.[1] Processing starts only after the Consular Division has collected the necessary documents.

Address the application to the Washington destination when filing there. Use the category page for the current invitation, passport, photo and payment checklist, and leave time to answer any review request before arranging travel to the Embassy.

New York accepts visa requests by prior appointment. The applicant may submit in person or through an authorised representative acting under the form of power of attorney described by the Consulate.[2] The application must name the New York Consulate as the place of visa issuance.

The Consulate does not accept visa applications by mail. Its current page separately describes a prepaid USPS method for returning the passport after the procedure.[2] That return option does not convert the original filing into a mail application.

Houston’s current application page accepts direct filing by the applicant or through a legal representative and requires an appointment. It states that visa applications are not accepted by mail.[3]

Use Houston as the destination in visa.kdmid.ru when the application will be filed there. Check the category page for the correct invitation and the current fee page for the applicable amount and payment method.

Choose the post first, then prepare one consistent file. Copy passport data exactly, use the invitation required for the selected visa category, enter the receiving post in the official form and follow only that post’s current appointment and payment procedure.
