What Is a Russian Visa Invitation?
A visa invitation — also called a letter of invitation (LOI) or visa support letter — is the document every Russian consulate asks for before it will issue a visa. It certifies that a Russian host (a tour operator, hotel, company or private person) is expecting you in Russia during your travel dates. Important: a simple hotel booking from Booking.com or a similar site is not an invitation and will not be accepted by the consulate.
For a tourist visa, the invitation is a single A4 page issued by a tour operator registered with the Russian authorities. It consists of two parts:
1. Foreign Tourist Reception Confirmation
Confirms that the accredited tour operator will host you in Russia. It shows your personal details, visa type, entry and exit dates, purpose of travel and the operator's official reference number.
2. Tourist Voucher
A short contract for tourist services: your itinerary, the cities you plan to visit, accommodation details and a note that all services are fully paid.
Both parts are printed on one page, stamped and signed by the tour operator. This is exactly the document you attach to your visa application form and hand in at the consulate or visa centre.
