GUVM MVD (Migration Service)
GUVM MVD (Main Directorate for Migration Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs) is the body responsible for migration registration of foreign nationals, issuing private invitations, residence registration, and work permit processing. Previously these functions were performed by the FMS (Federal Migration Service), abolished in 2016.

GUVM MVD (Main Directorate for Migration Affairs of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs) is the government body that replaced the FMS (Federal Migration Service) in 2016. Key functions of GUVM MVD for foreign nationals include: migration registration (registration at place of stay), issuing private invitations, visa extensions, issuing work permits and patents, processing temporary residence permits (RVP) and residence permits (VNZh). Territorial offices of GUVM MVD are located in every district of every city in Russia. Important: it is GUVM MVD (not the consulate) that processes private invitations for foreigners invited by private individuals.
