T

Tourist Visa

A Russian tourist visa is a type of visa for short-term stays for tourism purposes (up to 30 days). Required documents include: a tourist voucher (hotel invitation), booking confirmation, passport, photo, application form, and consular fee. It can be single-entry or double-entry.

Transit Visa

A Russian transit visa is a type of visa for passing through Russian territory to a third country. Issued for up to 10 days. Required: tickets to destination country, visa for destination (if required), passport. Not needed for airport transit without leaving the international zone (up to 24 hours).

Tourist Voucher

A tourist voucher is a document confirming the booking of tourist services (accommodation, excursions) in Russia. It is part of the tourist invitation. Contains tourist data, itinerary, stay dates, and details of the hosting travel agency. Issued together with the confirmation of reception.

Telex (Telex Invitation)

A telex is a legacy method of transmitting a business invitation directly to the consulate via a secure communication channel. Currently, business invitations are issued on official company letterhead and sent by email. Processing time: 1-2 business days.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a mandatory document for obtaining a Russian visa. Must cover: the entire stay period, all Russian territory, coverage meeting the current official minimum, where applicable. Policies from Russian and foreign insurance companies are accepted. Must be obtained before visa application submission.

V

Visa

A visa is an official document (stamp or sticker in a passport) granting the right to enter, stay in, or transit through a foreign country. Most foreign nationals need a visa to enter Russia, which is issued by a Russian consulate based on an invitation letter.

Visa Center

A visa application center receives documents on behalf of a consular office. The operator, address, services and service fee vary by country and can change; use only the center currently listed on the responsible embassy or consulate's official website.

Visa-Free Regime

A visa-free regime is an agreement between countries allowing citizens to enter without a visa for a specified period. Russia has visa-free agreements with 60+ countries (Brazil, Argentina, Israel, South Korea, etc.). Visa-free stay is usually 30–90 days. A visa is still required for longer stays.

Visa Application Form

A visa application form is a standard form for applying for a Russian visa. Filled out online at visa.kdmid.ru (for most consulates). Contains: personal data, passport details, purpose of trip, itinerary, hosting party information. Printed, signed, and submitted with a photo.

Visa Validity

Visa validity is the period during which a visa allows entry to Russia. It differs from the duration of stay: a visa may be valid for 30 days, but the stay is limited to 14 days. Entry must occur before the validity expires. After expiration, the visa is automatically cancelled.

Visa Extension

Visa extension is a procedure to increase the stay period in Russia without leaving the country. Available in exceptional cases: illness, force majeure, contract extension (for work visas). Processed through the local migration office (GUVM MVD). Tourist visas cannot be extended.

Visa Refusal

Visa refusal is a consulate's decision not to issue a visa. Reasons: incomplete documents, suspected immigration intent, past violations, insufficient financial means. The consular fee is non-refundable. Reapplication is possible after addressing the reasons for refusal.

Visa Photo Requirements

Russian visa photo requirements: size 3.5×4.5 cm, color, white background, no glasses or headwear (except religious), face occupies 70–80% of frame, taken within last 6 months. Photo is glued to the application form. Some consulates only accept matte photos.

Visa Support

Visa support is a non-standard commercial term. For a regular Russian tourist visa, it often means the tourist voucher plus confirmation of reception, but some providers use it for a broader service package. Check the actual documents supplied rather than relying on the label alone.

Visa on Arrival

Visa on arrival is a visa issued directly at the airport or border. Russia does NOT issue visas on arrival for most categories. Exception: some special economic zones and e-Visa (applied online in advance but doesn't require consulate visit). A visa for Russia must be obtained in advance.

Visa Regime

A visa regime is a set of rules and requirements governing the entry of foreign nationals into a country. Russia has a visa regime with most countries in the world, except CIS states and certain countries with visa-free agreements. The visa regime determines visa types, duration of stay, required documents, and application procedures.
